Parts We Carry
Huguley's housing stock centers on 1977, which means a good share of the openers still bolted to the ceiling in this area are original chain-drive units, or a straight swap from the 1990s at the latest. That matters for parts. A lot of those early units ran on drive gears and sprockets that newer openers don't use, and the logic boards that control travel limits on units from that era are long out of production. We carry common replacement gear kits, trolley assemblies, and circuit boards for the drive systems that show up most in houses built in the 1960s-1980s window, since that's most of what we see across this part of the service area. What we don't stock is the exact board for every discontinued opener model - if yours is a less common brand from that period, we may need to special order a part or recommend a full unit swap instead of chasing a part that's hard to find. We'll tell you straight which way makes more sense once we're looking at the unit, rather than quoting blind over the phone.
Can You Do This Yourself
Some of this is reasonable to tackle yourself: clearing the photo-eye sensors, reprogramming a remote, tightening a loose chain. If the opener runs but the door won't go all the way down, or reverses partway, that's usually a limit switch or sensor alignment issue and worth trying before you call anyone. Where it stops being a DIY job is the drive gear itself, especially on the older chain-drive units common in this area - those gears are usually made of nylon, and once they strip, the motor runs but the trolley doesn't move. Swapping that gear means opening the housing on a motor that's been in service for decades, and on units this old you're also working around wiring and capacitors that weren't built to any current safety standard. If your opener predates the 1990s, we'd rather you call before you start taking the housing apart.
Getting It Booked In
We cover Huguley out of Opelika, about 15 miles away, so we're not sitting on a job list of locals ready to roll in minutes - plan on us scheduling the drive rather than showing up same-hour. When you call, tell us the opener's rough age and what it's doing (won't close, reverses, makes a grinding noise, remote doesn't work) so we can bring the right gear kits or board stock the first trip instead of a second visit. If the unit is original to a mid-1970s build, let us know that too - it changes what we pack on the truck. You can also start with our page on general garage door repair in Huguley for the door itself, if the opener isn't the only thing acting up.
